The concept of exploring such a vast and seamless world in classic wow gold felt revolutionary in 2004, since the Internet was still an enjoyable place and the idea of playing with some dude on the opposite side of the country still felt publication. We enjoyed sneaking into unreleased zones like Mount Hyjal because we had no idea what Blizzard had planned for them. Videos required ages more to download before YouTube in the days, so we experimented with tactics and kept our boss strategies close to the chest. (We once tried to tank the flame lord Ragnaros using a hunter because it appears liked maybe that was the trick. Even equipment was a puzzle, and so whole books' worth of text were written with"theorycrafting" for optimizing everything you wore. There was always so much to learn, and we had little idea of the way our clean"worldview" would shift with the upcoming big patch.

But there is none of that now. There are no true surprises. Anyone enjoying Classic can tap a few keys and immediately know how to defeat Ragnaros through Google or YouTube. Even if one player insists on not looking up anything, there is always going to be one man in the group who looks up a strategy and tells everybody about it out of impatience. Precisely when this or that skill is going to be taken out of the game, we all know. We know precisely which things will market during specific spots, so even the economy lacks puzzle. In a weird meta way, playing Classic seems somewhat like roleplaying the game. Or worse, it is a little like trying to watch Game of Thrones again using the wisdom of understanding how it ends up and being not able to overlook the disappointments waiting down the line.

For the majority of its history, Blizzard's approach to WoW revealed it adeptly understood the old Latin adage that the times are changing and we're changing with them. Classic rejects which change. That makes it a good fit for the tendency to wallow in nostalgia--to our own sanity. In the most benign, this tendency makes us believe things were better in the past in part because we don't account for the terms that colour that perception. At the bottom, it leads to cynical attempts to profit on that perception while doing little to proceed forward. Classic feels like it touches a bit of both of these endings.

I believe WoW Classic is most helpful for the ways it shows enough time has passed that players are prepared to once again embrace the system layout of the original game. As opposed to releasing cheap wow classic gold, however, I wish Blizzard had experimented with reintroducing old approaches to the next mainline expansion--although I well remember the blowback when Blizzard tried to reintroduce crowd control-heavy dungeons in the 2010 Cataclysm growth. And today that Classic seems like a hit--although I am intensely curious to find out what the reception will be like two weeks from now--perhaps some of those ideas will still spill over.
