I keep trying to think of my opinion on the episode, and to be honest, I don't have any strong feelings either way. The story once again wasn't particularly groundbreaking or exciting. What works is the humor and the chemistry which is what sets apart White Collar from other shows. The scenes with the little girl and Peter were really funny, and the rest of the funny scenes worked well. Neal and Peter continue to have a father/son/brother relationship which makes their scenes fun. Peter still doesn't trust Neal as he shouldn't, but slowly that is changing. I thought the twist at the end was great. Finally, Neal's hunt for Kate and his cooperation with the FBI will merge, and there is some connection between the two stories. He no longer can trust any of them if the FBI is involved, and even Peter may be involved. If it is an FBI sanctioned operation, having Neal around may hold another purpose. While that never happened, it makes you wonder if he would kill himself if that was 100% definitive proof that there wasnt aliens. There was great acting by Gillian Anderson once again. Hes just a normal human who may or may not have psychic abilities, but his general creepiness and ability to mess with peoples minds without anything overtly supernatural makes him unique. Mulder is manipulated into believing that a serial killer had abducted her instead of aliens. In the end, it wasnt true and no new information was discovered, but its all about the process of getting to that conclusion, and the episode hit it out of the park. Mulder goes off to the Bermuda Triangle looking for a ship, and instead travels back to 1939 where Nazis have taken over. The catch is that some of the people he meets look exactly like people he knows back home. Maybe it was a hallucination and never really happened, but thats not the point; the episode was a blast. That coupled with the design of the control rods used to shut down the reaction. The control rods had a graphite tip so as not to screw with the reaction while they weren't inserted. But when things went balls up and they inserted them, that meant that the graphite tips actually increased the reaction speed as they were inserted into the reactor, helping it to go further out of control. The lesson is that lying, arrogance and suppression of criticism is dangerous. The flaws that led to Chernobyl are the same flaws shown by climate change deniers today. How Much of the Series Chernobyl is Real? There was an unprecedented steam explosion that completely wrecked a reactor. Firefighters and plant workerssometimes through ignorance and sometimes because of altruistic self-sacrificeexposed themselves to huge doses of radiation to try to limit the damage. As for the miniseries, HBO calls it a dramatization. Its a good description. The steam explosion was in fact dramatic: powerful enough to lift the 1,000-metric-ton lid off the reactor. It also was tragic. Thirty-one plant personnel, firefighters and other emergency responders died within three months from the explosion, radiation poisoning and other causes. While chaos ensues at the plant, the politicians, along with other high-ranking officials, debate policy and talk about keeping the story under wraps and protecting the strength of the nation from outside ridicule.
